Former Major League Baseball (MLB) utility player Ryan Freel is the first baseball player to be diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease mostly seen in former football and hockey players, and may be linked to the 36-year-old's suicide last December. The discovery comes on the heels of MLB officials looking to ban collisions at home plate as early as the upcoming 2014 MLB season.
