The Washington Redskins defeated the Dallas Cowboys on their home court on Monday night in a game that reached overtime with a score of 20-17.
It was an upsetting loss for the Cowboys who were deeply favored to win the game over the Redskins. The Washington Post said that quarterback, Colt McCoy, led his team's victory by not missing a throw and hammering five completions to his teammates Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed and DeSean Jackson.
The Cowboys could have still won the game but they were also crippled with the absence of Tony Romo, due to a sack by Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson during the third quarter that left him injured.
An NJ.com report said that Romo got hit in the back and suffered a contusion, but X-rays conducted "came back negative."
"Romo did return with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but nearly turned the ball over twice and was not able to lead his team to victory. The veteran ended the game 17 of 28 for 209 yards and a touchdown," NJ.com recalled.
'A long way to go'
Redskins coach, Jay Gruden, told Washington Post that all his players contributed to the team's victory.
"It's a great team win, a big win on the road. But the fact of the matter is we're still 3-5 and have a long way to go. And we can't lose sight of that," he added.
McCoy, for his part, finished 25 of 30 for the 299 yards. Though he was sacked thrice, he was still able to run for 16 yards which included a seven-yard touchdown. His teammate, Alfred Morris, made the team's other touchdown happen.
"I'll take a ton of the blame early in the game. In the second half, we just dug our cleats in, and believed in each other, trusted each other and found a way to win," McCoy told Washington Post.
He also said in a CBS Sports article that he felt more comfortable when the game progressed and he saw that they were making the right defense. "We made some plays down the stretch that good teams have to make to win games,'' he added.
On to the next game
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, on the other hand, expressed disappointment on their loss. ''Jay Gruden and his staff, their organization, they came in here and took it to us and they won the game. We couldn't get it done,'' he added.
For his part, Romo told ESPN that his team will "move on" from this loss and expressed positive vibes on their upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
"It's just hard when you lose. Obviously it's the worst thing you feel like you go through. We're disappointed about this game but we're going to have to figure it out within 24 hours and move past it and move on to the next game. Obviously with the injury aspect of it, you feel like you may have dodged one from that regard. That's why you do all the things you do to hopefully withstand stuff like that," he added.
