British boyband One Direction has received a lot of criticisms lately, so it's a nice change when praise from a respectful member of the music industry comes along for the group.

That was the case when Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason revealed that he actually likes several of the pop band's music, The Independent reported.

"They have some good songs. I don't subscribe to this idea that musicians don't make good music anymore. The standard of musicians is higher now than it was in my day," Mason said as cited by The Independent.

The 70-year old musician even stated that One Direction did well on "X-Factor" and he believes that if the show was around during his time, Pink Floyd wouldn't even get through the judges. In fact, Mason thinks that he would not have a chance of being a member of the group if Pink Floyd held auditions.

"My wife said to me if they'd had auditions for Pink Floyd I wouldn't have got in and I said she was right. But then neither would Roger Waters or Syd Barrett or anyone," Mason said, as reported by The Independent.

The musician also said that "X-Factor" is a great show despite a few cons for some contestants.

"I'm not a big fan of The X Factor but it is brilliant television. People assume it's a stepladder to stardom but it probably leads to a lot of disappointment for people."

Pink Floyd's upcoming album, "The Endless River," will be the group's last and will come out on November 7.

Their previous album, "The Division Bell," was released in 1994. According to the The Guardian, the album is a tribute to the band's deceased keyboard player Wright, "a man whose talents were under appreciated by the public, media and the band themselves."

David Gilmour, the band's guitarist and co-lead vocalist, stated on The Guardian: "I didn't necessarily always give him his proper due. People have very different attitudes to the way they work and we can become very judgmental and think someone is not quite pulling his weight enough, without realizing that theirs is a different weight to pull."
