After news broke out that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will go against each other in a mega fight next year, the latter has expressed that it may not happen anytime soon since he wants to give Amir Khan the chance to fight him first.
A Christian Post report quoted the undefeated American boxer, saying that if Khan gets his fight, "it will be because I think he deserves a shot."
"I have always said that nobody has any right just to fight with me. I am nobody's pay day, I am nobody's meal ticket. I take fights that I believe will test me ... I ain't ever taken a fight just because somebody has been running off their mouth," Mayweather added.
In an earlier ESPN report, Mayweather Sr. assured the public that his son will definitely fight Pacquiao in 2015.
"It's gonna happen. That fight's gonna happen. Trust me. That fight's definitely gonna happen. It's a fight for the world, man, right there. It's the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said, man, that fight's gonna happen."
Mayweather's father also expressed confidence that his son will definitely defeat Pacquiao once they clash.
But the American boxer, in an interview with Fight Hype, said that what his father said was not accurate. "Well my father is totally wrong...the best thing for Pacquiao to do is be quiet before he really gets exposed and I tell some things that he don't want me to tell," he noted.
He also said that if his father to continues speaking to the media without prior consultation with the whole team, he might as well be taken out.
"Then I must get a new trainer. I'm just saying, when Pacquiao was sleeping, everybody was like, 'Y'all crazy for trying to make that Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.' You know what's so crazy? I just look at the situation like this, ever since Ariza left Pacquiao, he hasn't had a knockout. What a coincidence!," the younger Mayweather added.
As for the money talks for their fight, Mayweather said the Filipino boxer is falling short of his claims.
"That's why he gotta fight in another country. They're bringing up my name to sell tickets. All you gotta do is look at his numbers that he did on his last couple of fights and look at my numbers. See, the thing is this, I know the biggest check that Pacquiao's team has seen from him. I know the biggest check was $7 million. I know how much he got from Nike...$100 grand, and when he got knocked out, they snatched the deal away," the confident Mayweather said, noting that he won't earn more through PPV if he fights Pacquiao.
Well, if Mayweather chooses to fight Khan, the English boxer would surely accept his challenge as he has already expressed interest in facing the American boxer.
An Examiner article said Khan's potential win against Devon Alexander on Dec. 13 will be his ticket to facing Mayweather.
