With regards to their on-going divorce battle, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are allegedly fighting tooth and nail for their pets.

Reports indicate that along with the division of their assets, the pair are said to be involved in a bitter custody battle over their eight Jack Russell terriers -- The Good Reverend Pow Jackson, Mutley P. Gore Jackson The Third, Jill E. Beans, Pipitty Jackson, Cha Cha, Jackie Lambchops, Squeak E. Beans and JJ, reported The Sunday Express.

Carey, 44, is insisting she get to keep all eight of her furry best friends while Cannon, 34, is negotiating to get only two, The Good Reverend Pow Jackson and Mutley P Gore Jackson The Third. The "American's Got Talent" host is eyeing the two dogs specifically because he claims to have a "special bond" with the pair.

The source further claims that this is the only "sticking point" in the proceedings and with regards to their fortune and kids, they're pretty much in agreement.

"There is no animosity over their kids or their fortunes. They both believe Roc and Roe should spend equal time with them and there's a rock-solid prenup in place as far as the money is concerned."

"The dog issue is a real stumbling block in negotiations between both their sets of attorneys, with Mariah insisting she doesn't want to split the pets up," revealed a legal source with inside knowledge of the pending case.

According to a friend of the singer, Carey has grown up with terriers with most of the dogs they're caring for having come fro rescue shelters. Nick on the other hand has come to love the dogs over the course of their marriage.

"Since they've been married, Nick has come to love their pooches too and, even if he ends up with a couple of them, he will sorely miss the rest and hopes to see them when he can," said the source.

They continued: "But I don't think he could handle more than two. Mariah's personal staff are well drilled in the animals' daily routine of being washed and groomed and, most days, having one of her chefs prepare their food."

According to Us Weekly, Mariah gives her dogs the best of care and is estimated to spend about $46,000 annually on spa treatments for her pooches. 

Comments on the Divorce

Cannon and Carey have both has kept mum on the split but Cannon did make a comment on TV show Extra: "I'm just taking everything one day at a time and just being the best person that I can possibly be at the end of the day," quoted the Mail Online of the former Nickelodeon icon.

Cannon and Carey have two twin toddlers, Moroccan and Monroe, fondly called Roc and Roe.
