Fans are unsure whether Rafael Nadal with push through with his scheduled matches or not as he continues to battle appendicitis and refuses to have surgery. According to him, he can overcome his condition with the help of antibiotics.
He earlier said in a The Age report that he is confident antibiotics can make him feel better -- butting surgery out of his options.
"That's great news for me today. That's why I'm here practicing for 45 minutes and trying to play tomorrow. But obviously I am not in my best condition," he explained, noting that he was feeling better than the past days.
The French tennis player said he would still have to consult his doctors for the best options regarding his conditions.
But according to The International Business Times, Nadal's recent loss to Feliciano Lopez is an indication that he should already seek surgery for his appendicitis. If he does, the athlete is expected to rest for about a month then finish the remaining of the 2014 season.
Sydney Morning Herald observed that Nadal was "clearly not at his best" when he was defeated by Lopez. It noted that he seemed not on his right self during the first set but was still able to redeem himself in the second set. His opponent, however, was very aggressive -- forcing the game into a tiebreaker before winning it.
After the devastating loss, Nadal is set to compete in Basel in the coming week before the final ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris. Prior to traveling to the country of his next competition, Nadal said that he is "fine."
"I've been on antibiotics for a couple of days. I know it'll be a tough tournament without training a lot, but I'll do my best," he added.
The Guardian, in a similar report, said that Nadal will first assess his performance at the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel before he plays in the ATP Tour Finals in London.
His spokesperson, Benito Pérez-Barbadillo, said that Nadal will definitely compete at Basel then "depending on how he feels and the advice from his doctors, will decide after the tournament on his schedule."
These are not the only two tournaments that the ailing Nadal is looking forward to. The National said that health issues will not hinder his participation at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship happening in Abu Dhabi next year.
Head organizer Greg Sproule told The National that they are in constant communication with the tennis player's camp.
"He just played in China and that means he is back and playing, which is great news. We're in touch with his manager Carlos Costa, who has said he is coming to Abu Dhabi.
"We have to rely on what he is saying and we pressed him quite hard in terms of is he coming, and he said yes and said put me down and quote me that he is coming.
"So that is the strongest endorsement we can get. The fact that he has just played in China is fantastic news," Sproule explained.
