On the latest episode of "The Mentalist," Patrick Jane's search for Red John literally went up in flames. 

The episode, "Fire and Brimstone," opens with Jane (Simon Baker) visiting his former home, which he is preparing for some unwelcome visitors. He covers the house in sheets, and is carrying a shot gun. A man comes to the door, and Patrick is waiting for the man to enter.

It then backtracks to two days earlier, when Jane is telling the team to look for a suspect that has a tattoo of three dots on the their left shoulder. Lisbon (Robin Tunney) says she wants to be with Jane when Red John is revealed, and Jane agrees. Jane contacts both Reede (Drew Powell) and Sheriff McAllister (Xander Berkeley), saying he wants to meet with both of them at the same time.

Meanwhile, Lisbon and the rest of team are trying to track down Stiles (Malcolm McDowell), another Red John suspect, so he can get in a room with the other two suspects. Jane ends up meeting with Stiles on his own, and Stiles tells him that he's a dying man; the disease he has has spread to his blood. Jane then helps Stiles escape his FBI detail, and he goes to the designated meeting place.

Patrick texts all the Red John suspects--including the remaining two--to meet up at the desired location. Jane and Lisbon drive to the location, but stop along the way to look at the sunset. When they get out of the car, Jane hugs Lisbon and tells her how important she is to him. And with that, Jane jumps back in the car and leaves Lisbon behind. He knows he has to carry out his final mission alone.

Patrick then arrives at the house. Meanwhile, Lisbon takes a man's car in order to get to Jane, and calls him to say to not go through it without her. He turns off his cellphone, determined to go it alone. 

The five suspects show up one by one. Once they are assembled in the room, Jane says that one of the men could be Red John. Ray (Reed Diamond) tries to leave, so Jane pulls out his shotgun and points it in his direction. Reede pulls out a gun, but Jane lets him know that he isn't afraid to shoot any one of them.

He then tells them that Red John has a tattoo of three dots on his left shoulder. They proceed to show Jane their shoulders. Ray and Stiles are tattoo free, but the sheriff, Reede and the head of police each have three dots on their shoulders. There is a gunshot, then it cuts to Lisbon arriving at the house.

Lisbon gets out of the car and begins to run to the house. Once she gets to the door, the house explodes.

On the next episode, "The Great Red Dragon," the hunt for Red John will heat up even more. 

The synopsis reads: "Following the shocking events at Jane's house, the Red John list is going to get narrowed down further, and the CBI's priority will be the remaining suspects."

Jane's search will also reveal a much bigger conspiracy.
