After months of envy and patient waiting among the non-iPhone crowd, Twitter announced on their blog Monday that their popular 6-second video service, which debuted for iOS almost six months ago, is finally coming to Android users. Let the excessive cat videography begin!

Twitter stated that many of the features that iPhone users have become accustomed to are available for the Android app. The app will allow six-second videography with automatic playback and sound along with features like "Explore", where you can see what the most popular fellow vine auteurs are creating, and "Find Friends" where you can invite fellow Android users that have been left in the cold to join the service.

But Android users get one feature that is (at least for now) unique only to Android: zoom. So get ready for your close up Mr. Tibbles.

Twitter says the Android and iOS apps are not fully in sync with each other, but "that won't be the case for long," so iPhone users can expect to get the zoom feature sooner or later. Also, expect new features to be coming in updates over the coming weeks, like the ability to vine with the front-facing camera (motion-picture selfies) improved search, mentions, and hashtags, and Facebook-sharing functionality, along with bug fixes and other improvements.

If you want the new Vine for Android, you can pick it up here. But there's a catch. You have to have Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" or above for the app to work, which is going to leave some Android users with older devices still hopelessly Vineless.

Vine is a video-sharing application, created by Dom Hofmann and Rus Yusopov in June 2012 and acquired by Twitter in October of the same year. It allows you to create a short video clip up to six-seconds long, and share it on Twitter. In January 2013, the app became available for iPhone and iPod Touch users for free, and soon became a social media sensation, spawning countless videos as well as a little controversy.
