It was a rough start for Manny Pacquiao during his pre-season debut in the Philippine Basketball Association on Saturday as he was only able to score one point and make one rebound.

Pacquiao's Kia Sorentos team lost to another expansion team called Blackwater Sports in Binan, Laguna last Saturday night with an 88-77 score, Yahoo Sports reported.

The Filipino boxing champ, who was recently drafted to the team which he is also coaching, also committed two turnovers during his first ten minutes on the court.

Yahoo Sports said that one of these turnovers happened when the boxer brought the ball down and tried to avoid the player guarding him with a crossover and a dribble combination. This move was however read by his defender Chris Timberlake who was able to steal the ball effortlessly from Pacquiao. He also tried to make a three-pointer as his first shot in the game but it was short.

Pacquiao has always considered basketball as his first love though he noted that boxing will remain his priority as he has gained extreme popularity because of the sport. He plays basketball as part of his boxing training and he has already played alongside players like Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller during a ball game outside his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

According to Yahoo, Pacquiao also played basketball inside the practice court of the Golden State Warriors last month. He has started a team called MP Warriors who has been competing in smaller basketball leagues. Pacquiao has been reportedly participating in team games only during the first quarter then spends his time on the bench for the rest of the game.

As he faces Cris Algieri in Macau next month, Pacquiao is expected to be at his best with all his other priorities set aside first.

KpopStarz, in a report, advised Pacquiao to be careful with his moves in his fight against Algieri because "he may end up losing to an underdog."

It cited Pacquiao's last face off with Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012 where the Filipino boxer was knocked out by his opponent and his loss was attributed to several issues of his camp including their coming unprepared to face Marquez.

Algieri, though he may not look like a ferocious opponent for Pacquiao, is an attacker and a brawler when it comes to his fight. And this is what Pacquiao should be prepared to face in their coming match. It is wise advise for the Filipino boxer to not treat Algieri as some fighter whom he can just knock down and defeat at any time within the fight.

Sports analysts and fans are hoping that Pacquiao will be able to devote his full focus on his next fight with Algieri and leave basketball first to the experts. He might have the luxury of time after the fight to participate in the games.
