If September, which saw the record launch of two new iPhone's, was Apple's month, then October is shaping up to be Google's turn to reveal its vision for mobile devices in 2014 and beyond. Two news nexus devices--one phone, one tablet--are expected to be announced soon as well as the launch of the next major update to the Android mobile OS, Android L--oh, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is also launching, in case anyone cared about that.

Nexus 6

The next Nexus smartphone will reportedly be made by Motorola and is expected to be very similar in appearance to the Moto X (2014), except that the Nexus 6 should sport a 5.92-inch screen, which would make it one of the larger smartphones from a major manufacturer in recent memory. Along with that massive size should come equally massive specs. A Snapdragon 805 or 810 processor is expected on board, along with 3GB of RAM and a 2560 x 1440 qHD display. Google is also expected to not skimp on the camera this time around, as a 13 megapixel rear shooter is rumored to be on board. Look for Google to announce or launch the Nexus 6 sometime on or shortly after October 15.

Nexus 9

The Nexus 9 will be Google's first Nexus tablet released since the Nexus 7 (2013) last summer. This will also be Google's largest tablet since the Nexus 10 which was released in 2012. All signs point to this device being a premium tablet, from it's processor (rumored to be the Nvidia Tegra K1), to its RAM (2GB) and finally to the display, which is reportedly going to be a 8.9-inch display running at a 2048 x 1440 resolution. An 8 megapixel rear camera and front-facing speakers are also expected to be a part of Google's first 9-inch tablet.

Look for the Nexus 9 to come in either 16GB or 32GB storage options in addition to WiFi-only and LTE-enabled variants. The tablet is expected to cost between $399 to $499 depending on its configuration.

Android L

Google's next mobile OS update will reportedly launch with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 this month. Owners of recent Nexus devices should also receive the update, yet Google has not at this time announced which devices can expect the update. Android L appears to be a major aesthetic overhaul from Android 4.4 KitKat which launched last year with the Nexus 5. Android L will feature a new design philosophy called 'Material Design,' which attempts to make every inch of its visible software surface appear tactile. New notifications, smoother frame rates and a re-imagined multi-tasking system are just a few of the new features Google has in store for users of its new mobile OS.
