After all the controversial bidding wars between huge production studios like Paramount and Working Title among others, it was Sony who is rumored to have landed the acquisition right of an all new Robin Hood movie for 2014.

In a report by Variety, further speculations state that it was Michael De Luca who closed the deal against the other bidders.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has come up with a deal's worth in seven figures, referring to the pitch made by writers Jeremy Lott and Cory Goodman.

Both were also the writing team of another sci-fi action movie called "Lore" by Warner Bros.

The pitch is reported to present Robin Hood and his group of thieves called Merry Men with the cinematic appeal of other Marvel hit movies. It was titled "Hood" and expected to have the same spark as other action flicks like "Mission: Impossible."

It will certainly be a re-imagined version of the classic character who steals from wealthy groups of people in the society to have something bountiful to give to the poor.

Movie Web recalls that the classic story has been told in various versions in the big screen or television through the years. The very first was called "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) and starred Errol Flynn in the lead.

It was followed in 1991 titled "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" with Kevin Costner, and in 2006 as a BBC U.S. series, "Robin Hood" with a cast led by Jonas Armstrong.

It was Universal Pictures who handled the previous Robin Hood film in 2010 which starred "Gladiator" star Russell Crowe and was directed by Ridley Scott.

It reportedly made $300 million in the worldwide blockbuster charts. However, it was not accepted well by fans along with movie critics.

As for who will play in this Sony-led version of the classic story, it is still unknown whether two of the most popular actors who have portrayed the role in the past will play the character again, Costner and Crowe.

The specific details of the new Robin Hood script remain vague. For now, what everyone has to do is simply wait and see if the new generation of audience would appreciate the traditional story done with a modern twist.

Stay tuned for more 2014 Robin Hood movie updates.
