If rumors are correct, than we are only a few weeks away from the unveiling--or maybe even the launch--of the Nexus 6, Google's next flagship Android smartphone. The rumored new phone has gone by many names in the lead up to its release, Nexus X, Shamu and Nexus 6 are all names the phone has gone by at one time or another--although, it should be noted that Shamu is reportedly Google's internal codename for the device. But whatever it's called, according to newly leaked benchmark scores, the Nexus 6 could be the most powerful Android phone ever when it launches this fall. 

According to Geekbench, in some tests, the Nexus 6 appears to be more powerful than even the iPhone 6, which is quite an accomplishment. In multi-core benchmarks, the Nexus 6 dominates the competition, while in single-core benchmarks, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s come in ahead of the new Nexus. 

But this means that the Nexus 6 scored higher than every other flagship Android device on the market, including the Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8, the LG G3 and the Moto X (2014). And this really shouldn't come as a surprise since the Nexus 6 is rumored to have truly top-of-the-line specs across the board. A Snapdragon 805 processor is reportedly powering Google's next smartphone, along with 2-3GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a 2560 x 1440 qHD display.

If these specs rumors end up being true, this would be a break from the model of recent years for Google with their Nexus devices, which have grown cheaper over the past few years or so. High-end specs across the board really hasn't been done since perhaps the Nexus One. It will be interesting to see what Google does with this phone, which is also rumored to have an enormous 5.92-inch screen--that's larger than the Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus, in case you were wondering. 

Look for Google to announce the Nexus 6 around mid-October, with the device being available for purchase through the Play Store shortly thereafter. The new phone should also launch with Google's next iteration of Android, Android L, on board. Android L is supposed to introduce a new design aesthetic called Material Design which attempts to make every surface within the OS have a tactile look based on the shadows and light effects of rendered surfaces.
