"Hear ye, Shoppers! October 6th it is! Wherever you are, with whomsoever you are, pause for a minute and mark your calendar for the Big Billion Day, for the very first time ever on your favourite shopping site, Flipkart."

This is how online megastore Flipkart.com offered this date as "The Big Billion Day" to customers, where items are sold in incredibly huge discounts. It was dubbed as India's largest discount sale ever, according to Business Standard.

Some of the goods on top of the list were earlier reported by NDTV. These include the Moto E at Rs. 5,499, discounted Asus ZenFone 5 and Asus ZenFone 4 A400CG, first-generation Moto X at Rs. 17,999 and the Nokia Lumia 1020 at Rs. 13,999. The source added that popular smartphones come at 30% off their usual prices. Laptops begin at Rs. 15,000. Selected accessories, perfumes and toys are half their original prices.

But what is supposed to be a great shopping galore ended up as a hateful online event instead.

Business Standard reported instances why the unfortunate situation occurred. Allegedly, the customers have observed inflation in the items' costs days before the big day--which makes today's discounts unreal. Others were unable to purchase out of server issues. Flipkart's advertisements in the newspapers were also claimed to be missing in the web site.

Outraged netizens belted out their grievances through social media. Following #BigBillionDay, the topic remained trending on Twitter:

@silverspoof tweeted, "The most amazon thing about #flipkart is that before you could, somebody else snaps the deal."

@i_theindian was disappointed, "Flipkart's #BigBillionDay sale is similar to AAP, initially it looks promising but thereafter you end up with only bloated claims & promises."

@tinucherian said, "Flipkart 's #bigbillionday #bigbillionsale. What you actually sold out today is your own damn credibility. #Megafail"

@smanak joked, "#BigBillionDay Even the 404 Page Not Found page is out of Stock."

Flipkart was reported by India Today to be in stiff competition with Amazon, which will be holding its big sale event next week. The source also mentioned about a Chrome extension called "buyhatke," which unveiled the dark secrets of e-commerce. The extension revealed how the prices of the products spiked, falling back to its original price before it was inflated.

Geetansh Arora wrote, "So they have increased the price now and tomorrow they will sell it in deals for big billion day. Dear flipkart.com, we are not stupid."
