If you've been waiting for an upgrade of the smaller Mac computer from Apple, then you're in for a treat! reports indicate that the new Mac Mini will be available by October.
According to MacRumors, the Cupertino-based firm is working on an update for device hasn't seen a change since 2012.
Insiders reveal that along with the new iPad models and presumably the OS X Yosemite, a new Mac mini will be launched next month. Two years without an update has made the device fall behind competitors in terms of specs and performance.
MYsinchew noted that although Mac mini users already have the "least cluttered" and most affordable of Apple's desktop lineup, there are those who are looking forward to an update. Other details including the specs and physical hardware have yet to be provided, said NDTV.
The new report raises some questions, especially regarding the hardware of devices. "Apple is waiting for Intel to finalize their Broadwell chips for release, which is tentatively scheduled for early 2015," noted iPhoneHacks.
"As a result, Intel has extended the usability of current-generation Haswell chips, but with a refresh so soon on the horizon, it would seem strange for Apple to use the aging processors in a brand new device," surmised the site.
According to reports cited by Christian Post, the Mac Mini 2014 will come with OS X Mavericks, powered by Iris-integrated Haswell graphics along with an Intel i7 4790 processor with 16 GB of RAM. It will come with connectivity features including the next-gen 802.11ac Wi-Fi along with other features like HandOff, AirDrop, MailDrop, and Continuity.
It's estimated that the Mac Mini will retail for about $599 or the 2.5GHz dual-core Intel i5 with 3MB L3 cache model, while the 2.3GHz quad-core Intel i7 with 6MB L3 cache model will cost $200 more at $799.
October is going to be a busy month for Apple as it's expected to launch the new iPads and OS X Yosemite. This will go head to head with Microsoft's launch of its new operating system, the next-gen of the popular Windows, dubbed "Windows 9."
Apple has released the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and it's been met with mixed reviews. While loyal customers have bought up practically all the available models, there have been issues on hardware bending and glitches with the new iOS 8 software, the launch of expected new devices next month will hopefully be met with more positive responses.
It'll be interesting to see what Apple will do for the new Mac Mini. Being a smaller desktop, other than being a shrunken version, it's a wonder how much change Apple will make to make the device worth the two year wait.
What're you thoughts? Are you going to be upgrading to a new Mac mini if it's released next month?
