Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks' break up shocked fans, prompting them to ask, "what went wrong?"

It was the 25-year-old Derulo who confirmed the split during his KDWB interview on Thursday. The "Talk Dirty" singer was hesitant at first to admit that he and Sparks have indeed gone their separate ways. He, however, maintained that they are still good friends.

An US Weekly source mentioned that the main reason behind their split is their conflicting work schedules.

Derulo was first linked to the "American Idol" Season 6 winner back in September 2011. Four months later, in January 2012, they confirmed their relationship.

They were known as a very showy pair and together, they were brave enough to tell everyone how much they love each other.

It was just last year when the now former couple was rumored to have been engaged. This was all due to the hype of Derulo's music video for his track "Marry Me" which also starred the 24-year-old Sparks. He was proposing to the "Idol" champ in one scene of the clip.

Derulo shared with E! News then that when the right time comes for him to propose to Sparks, it would be the greatest moment of his life. He also emphasized that true love was the basis of their relationship.

The two were always supportive of each other, in every aspect of their lives, not just in their individual music careers, according to several reports. Derulo praised his now ex-girlfriend for taking care of him when he was recovering from a broken vertebrae two years ago.

But at one point, "The Other Side" singer and dancer confessed that their relationship had its own share of challenges and tough times. Just like any ordinary couple, it is assumed that the two weren't able to find ways of solving their speculated career schedule conflicts.

Prior to Derulo's confirmation of their breakup, Sparks posted tweets that gave hints that there's trouble in their relationship. On September 15, she revealed, "just wrote the saddest song of my life."
