The Cupertino-based tech giant might not stop unveiling products until 2014 ends. A recent report by The Daily Dot revealed that Apple is planning to launch yet another product on Oct. 21, according to unnamed sources. The said event will feature two new iPads (Air 2 and Mini 3). The OS X Yosemite is also set to be announced.
Bloomberg reported Tim Cook to be working on "shaking up" the iPad line. Apparently, its sales have declined for two straight quarters. The company has not launched a new product to join the line since last year.
Although Apple is expected to launch a new breed of iPads, BGR cited Taiwanese publication The Commercial Times which reported that only the updated 9.7-inch iPad Air model is likely to come out this year. BGR added that the new Retina iPad mini model and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro might come in 2015.
What's with iPad Air 2 that sets it apart from its predecessor? Check out how the rumored specs and features of the next-gen Apple tablet compare to the iPad Air.
Display. Both iPads sport 9.7 inch Retina Display and 2048x1536 screen resolution. The iPad Air 2 is said to possess anti-reflective screen coating.
Camera. The iPad Air 2 may have higher imaging qualities, with an 8 MP rear camera and a 1.5 MP front one. On the other hand, iPad Air's FaceTime HD camera works with 1.2 MP, capable of 720p HD video. Its iSight works at 5 MP with autofocus and face detection features. The original iPad Air can record videos up to 1080p.
Operating System. The new iPad Air will most likely operate under iOS 8. The OS comes as an update to Apple devices.
Processor. A faster A8 processor is projected for the iPad Air 2. Its predecessor had A7. The new iPad Air is also allegedly having a doubled up RAM.
Touch ID. This feature is for iPad Air 2, working as a fingerprint system--much like that of the latest iPhones.
Storage options. The iPad Air 2 will be having the usual 16GB, 32GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage choices. The original Air is offerred similarly.
Other features of the iPad Air 2. This new iPad Air is also rumored to be thinner and lighter, and will be available in iPhone-like colors.
Other features of the iPad Air. Released nearly a year ago, the original Air physically measures 9.4 inches in length, 6.6 inches in width, 0.29 inch in depth, 469g (Wi-Fi) and 478g (Wi-Fi + Cellular) in weight. Intelligent Assistant Siri is also present in this model.
Christian Post predicted that the price for the device will probably start at $500--similar to the cost of the most basic version of the iPad Air. On the other hand, Expert Reviews noted that it could start around $650.
The original iPad Air starts at $499 for the 16 GB Wi-Fi version. The most expensive type is the Wi-Fi + Cellular, priced at $929.
Apple has not confirmed any information about iPad Air 2, as it is dubbed.
