"The Voice" is back for its seventh season with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as the two new judges. They are joining mega-stars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for another season of the five-staged reality vocal competition.
The Monday premiere was a blast with the judges' performance of "Hella Good" by No Doubt--the rock band in which Gwen herself is lead vocalist. The number featured not just the newcomers, but all four judges. Playing the instruments were Adam on guitar and Pharrell on drums. On vocals were Blake in his country singing style and Gwen with her rocking vibrato. The Hollywood Life commented on Gwen's look as gorgeous, sporting her curly blonde hair and signature red lips.
Gwen and Pharrell took over Usher and Shakira's spots; the latter replaced original coaches Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green.
The first episode, simply "The Blind Auditions," is the competition's first round. Judges sit on spinning chairs and press a button that turns them around for a singing contestant who can potentially be "The Voice."
Luke Wade, a 31-year-old soul singer was an all-chair-turner. Celeb Dirty Laundry said that according to him, he was singing since he was three. Wade chose Pharrell.
South-Korean native Clara Hong sang Rickie Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s in Love." She was even coached by Gwen on stage, yet the contestant joined Adam's team.
Bryana Salaz from Texas was a military baby. Everybody turned for her except Adam. She picked Gwen.
Pursuing his dream of becoming a singer in LA was Damien Lawson, who has dealt with so many rejections. All judges turned for him, though Blake did it a little later. His stage presence was very emotional. He headed to Adam.
Coming back from Season 6's blind audition rejection is Allison Bray. Three judges turned for her, except Pharrell. The "Happy" singer gave way thinking that Blake would be a better coach for her. Allison indeed picked Blake.
Next is the musically-passionate Taylor John Williams who had Adam and Gwen turn for him. Pharrell noted that Taylor understood his voice while Gwen understood his future. The contestant chose Gwen.
Elyjuh Rene cited singing in church and having his mom's support. Two judges turned, Adam and Pharrell. Adam wanted him, but the contestant went with Pharrell instead.
The final artist, James David Carter, was the night's second all-chair-turner. He joined Blake.
So far, all four judges have two finalists under their respective teams. After the Blind Auditions, the next rounds would be the Battle Rounds, the Knockouts, the Live Playoffs and the Live Performance Shows.
