In an epic NFC East showdown, the Washington Redskins came into Philadelphia without their star quarterback Robert Griffin III. The game was largely left in the hands of back-up quarterback Kirk Cousins, who put on a brilliant performance throwing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns. The one blunder on the part of Cousins was a costly late game interception that gave the Eagles a 10-point lead with only four-minutes remaining.
Cousins and the Redskins got the ball back and scored quickly, but they were unable to convert on fourth down with a makeable field goal only 10-yards away. While the Redskins came up short in the end, they should take great pride in the fact that they might have some serious quarterback controversy should Cousin's continue with his high-level game play. RGIII began his career with a bang, but has since fizzled due to injuries and a lack of offensive help around him.
The Philadelphia Eagles now move to 3-0 on the season, but it will be difficult to continue their winning ways if quarterback Nick Foles continues to get lit up the way he did against Washington. During an interception return by the Redskins in the fourth quarter, Foles was completely obliterated by Redskins linemen Chris Baker. Foles was looking up field at the corner when the 300 lbs. lineup appeared out of thin air. Foles hit the turf hard and cringed in pain.
Eagles linemen Jason Peters didn't take kindly to the attack on his quarterback and so he threw a punch at Baker as the two became entangled in a facemask-grabbing match. Numerous players became involved in the shoving match, which took officials three to four minutes to finally settle down. The ferocity of both teams was in full display for the rowdy Philly fans who were undoubtedly loving every moment of it.
The Eagles were able to spoil the return of former wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Jackson was relatively a limited factor aside from an 81-yard touchdown catch. In celebration Jackson mimicked the 'dirty bird' and then stomped out the Eagles logo, as he tasted the first spoils of revenge.
Overall the Eagles would have last laugh, becoming the first team in NFL history to begin a season 3-0 after trailing by 10 or more points in every game. The Eagles have shown true heart and look to be serious competitors this season.
