Curious how the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus will do if ever they're dropped?
Several outlets and individuals have conducted a so-called "drop test" to gauge just how strong the newest iPhones are. But not all drop tests are intentional.
It turns out that one of the very first iPhone 6 drop tests happened in Perth, Australia where a youngster, first in line to buy the Apple device, accidentally dropped the phone.
The new owner, Jack Cooksey, had a bit of trouble trying to unbox the iPhone 6 live on Australian TV. Fumbling with the white box, Cooksey finally managed to open the top box but also displaced the iPhone--dropping it directly onto the floor.
The "Today" show host was just as shocked as Cooksey. Thankfully, his new iPhone came out alive and unscathed.
Another drop test, this time intentional, was conducted by Android Authority. The YouTube video shows the iPhone 6 dropped on its rear, its side and its front. Surprisingly, aside from scuffs on the bottom and on the side, the 4.7-inch device is still fully functional.
The same goes for the iPhone 6 Plus which also underwent all the drops-rear, side and front. The bigger 5.5-inch tablet got away with just a few scuffs amid the full frontal drop.
Phone Buff also conducted its very own iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus drop test-albeit yielding different results. Like Android Authority, Phone Buff also used three types of drop for the iPhone drop test.
The iPhone 6 survived even when it was dropped on its rear and on its side. The front drop, however, sent the phone's screen shattering but still functioning.
The bigger iPhone 6 Plus met its demise when it was dropped on its side, the Phone Buff video revealed. The drop created cracks along the same side which made contact with the hard ground. The front drop damaged the iPhone 6 Plus even more but like the iPhone 6, it still had a functioning screen.
With all these iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus drop test videos showing different results, it's kind of hard to gauge exactly how strong the newest Apple phones are. It is also important to note that the conditions in which the smartphones were tested differ from one video to another.
Phone Buff, for one, made use of a platform whereas Android Authority simply let go of the iPhone devices mid-air. Cooksey's accidental iPhone 6 drop test, on the other hand, had the device slip from its box.
Both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus sport an ion-strengthened glass-protected Retina HD LCD screen while the chassis is made of anodized aluminum.
