"In Bruges" actor Colin Farrell has reportedly confirmed his participation in season 2 of HBO's hit series, "True Detective."

International Business Times reported the actor affirming his role at Sunday World. Farrell allegedly said in a statement, "I'm doing the second series...  I'm so excited. I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot."

On the other hand, HBO has not confirmed his casting just yet. In July, Deadline hinted on Farrell's probable rise to one of next season's three big roles. "Miss Julie" star Jessica Chastain was also rumored to join the cast.

Farrell's probable landing on a lead role was earlier reported by The Wrap. He could be playing Ray Velcoro, a person "who has been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional lives."

The series, which previously starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, will premiere its second season with brand new cast. HBO, along with series creator, Nic Pizzolatto, are filling major key roles, said Entertainment Weekly. The source added that director Cary Fukunaga will not be working on the second season.

According to Independent, Farrell shared that the casting is still under process.  Rachel McAdams from "Mean Girls" and "The Notebook," and Elisabeth Moss of "Mad Men" are reportedly vying for a certain Californian sheriff character. "Swingers" actor Vince Vaughn and "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch might also take parts. In addition, William Friedkin of "The Exorcist" and Justin Lin of "The Fast and the Furious" are two of the possible directors rumored to be helming the series.

Vaughn's participation was reported to be in Pizzolatto's mind during the latter's creation of Season 2. His role was rumored to be that of a "central antagonist," as described by The Wrap. While the outlet expected that there will be three lead roles for the second season, Vaughn's character as the probable fourth lead was said to be developed.

Reports suggested that Season 2's story will center on the events following the death of a corrupt city manager in a fictitious Californian city. The victim was "brutally murdered," and three law enforcement officers are eventually assigned to deal with the high-profile case. The adventure unfolds as discoveries are unveiled.

The first season of "True Detective" was nominated for five Emmys, as cited by BuzzFeed. One of them was awarded to Fukunaga for being "Outstanding Director."

Meanwhile, Hallels noted the expected release date of "True Detective Season 2" by summer next year.
