A protest against illegal immigration was called off today when its organizer decided the threat of violence from the Mexican drug cartels was too high. Stasyi Barth is the architect behind the scheduled "Shut Down All Ports of Entry" protest that was supposed to take place today. According to her, she and other organizers of the protest were being threatened and harassed in the days leading up to the scheduled event. 

"It was cartel threatening a blood bath, [Facebook] hits coming [en] masse from Mexico," Stasyi Barth stated, according to The Blaze. "One of the organizers was being followed and was verbally told not to go."

The plan was for protesters to use vehicles and their own bodies to block the points of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border on Saturday. The goal being to raise awareness on the issue of illegal immigration and to force politicians to act to curb the flow of undocumented immigrants coming in to the U.S from Mexico.

Barth called off the protest early Saturday morning due to "an unsubstantiated threat of mass violence to [the protest's] attendees." The cancellation came just a few hours before the scheduled event was supposed to take place. 

Barth also claims "suspicious activity" on the protest's Facebook page was another factor that led to the cancellation. Barth informed those planning to take part in the protest that their "lives and the lives of our law enforcement are more important than any protest." 

Barth explained to the Blaze that the protest has support "everywhere" along the U.S.-Mexico border states. "We have a Constitution that's not being abided by. Americans are losing their rights, and America is losing its sovereignty," Barth said. 

The Blaze reports via Breitbart that these following points of entry along the border were scheduled to be blocked by the group today:

Texas: Laredo, Rio Grande City, Presidio, Hildago, Brownsville and Del Rio.

California: Calexico West, Calexico East, Stay Mesa, Tecate and San Ysidro.

New Mexico: Columbus and Santa Theresa.

Arizona: Naco, Nogales, Douglas and San Luis.

There have been no reports of protesters showing up as planned in spite of the event's cancellation. The protest was scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. EDT.

According to the Blaze, some law enforcement officials promised make sure the points of entry along the border stayed open.
