Last week saw East Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and even Boston College were able to take down what many believed were their superiors on the football field. The best thing about college football is the potential upsets and they are certainly popular as the first month in the season reaches its conclusion.

There are a number of teams this week who need to be on for every quarter if they plan on making it to the playoffs. Here are some of the key match ups this week that may lead to surprise finishes.

#1 Florida State vs #22 Clemson 5 p.m. EDT on ABC

Jameis Winston has gone from being the Seminoles greatest showcase to now their greatest hinderance. Thanks to some unprofessional conduct off the field, he will not play for the first half of this game. Sean Maguire will be taking snaps for the first two quarters, but are the Seminoles still the Seminoles without their Heisman winner? Clemson has the most opportunity to make Florida State miserable with this one. They have a great front seven to keep Maguire uneasy in the pocket, if they can put points on the board early and often, Winston may have to carry this loss like an albatross until the end of the season.

#3 Alabama vs Florida 12:30 p.m. EDT on CBS

Alabama looked a little off against West Virginia, but Blake Sims and company have managed to right the ship in recent weeks, albeit against inferior teams. While Florida only managed to defeat University of Kentucky with triple overtime, history says that sparks fly when these two teams meet. Florida's Vernon Hargreeves III leads their very effective secondary that will be looking to contain Omari Cooper and Sims's usual hook up patterns. It all comes down to whether or not Sims can make passes in tight coverage in this game, which he has not been asked to do yet. If they keep it close, the Gators might be able to make Alabama sweat near the end.

#4 Oklahoma vs. West Virginia 4:30 p.m. EDT on FOX

Speaking of teams that made Alabama sweat, West Virginia has been known for making trouble in the AP rankings and they have a chance to do that here. Expect them to spread out the defense of Oklahoma to keep them from smothering the quarterback Clint Trickett. Points are going to be the name of the game in this one so it may just come down to who holds the ball most of the time.

#8 LSU vs Mississippi State 8 p.m. EDT on ESPN and streaming on WatchESPN

LSU has a bit of a chip on their shoulder being a very underrated team in the SEC West, and they have a chance of keeping their winning ways alive in this game. However, do not sleep on the defensive efforts of the Bulldogs. This is going to come down to two very stiff defenses including. LSU will also be challenged by Mississippi quarterback Dak Prescott who has shown a lot of variety and strength in his play style. The front seven of the Bulldogs have one task: Keep the Tiger's defenders at bay to give Prescott enough time to make a play.
