Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams has been anything but secretive on the highly anticipated film. Abrams has released numerous short clips and pictures of iconic Star Wars ships, settings and characters. The hype is usually confined to social media where die-hard fans can 'nerd out' and ponder where the new trilogy will pick up and leave off.
The sheer force of Star Wars is powerful enough to garner media attention even though its release date is still more than a year away. Fans are curious about Disney's influence on the film and if it will 'corrupt' the purity of the project. "Pirates of the Caribbean" was an extremely popular Disney film; although critics pointed out that it may have been a more realistic depiction if Disney had not been involved. The one assurance is that the fan blowback will be on a nuclear level is the new Star Wars trilogy decides to buck any past trends.
In the spirit of continuing to spread hype abroad, J.J. Abrams has released a short clip of the underside of the famed Millennium Falcon. There is speculation that Abrams purposely did not show a wide shot of the ship because it will be given a 'new and improved' look. Truthfully, there isn't a whole lot to see here but something from Star Wars is always better than nothing from Star Wars.
The time gaps in between the first and second trilogies were played out well on screen, due to the technological degrades. It made perfect sense that the technology had degraded in the original series due to the constant war that the galaxy found itself in. For the latest trilogy it is unknown how technology will be used.
X-Wing fighters as well as the Millennium Falcon always had a grungy look to them, in contrast to the clone ships of Episodes I-III. In keeping true to the time period, Abrams shouldn't dive off the deep end even though with he has the ability to create anything with the latest CG technology.
There will naturally be a fine line between pleasing the fans who were there for Episodes IV-VI and the new fans who will be in line to see Episode VII. Keeping everyone happy will be a difficult task, but so long as Abrams stays true to the George Lucas model he should be successful.
