For those who won't be buying the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you can still get the new iOS features by upgrading your software.
According to Computer World, Apple has confirmed that the new OS will be available for download on Sept. 17.
The new software will bring a number of new features, including an improved user interface allowing for easier transition between apps, predictive keyboard updates, upgraded Siri, a new health app as well as a new list of enhanced photo editing abilities and group message processing.
The system upgrade feels "very modern and futuristic," described Mike McCue via USA Today, co-founder of the Flipboard social news app, who has been using the iOS 8 for months.
"It's about things working better now. It goes deeper than just the looks. It's about the feel of the iOS experience."
One great addition to the software is the family sharing capabilities. If you live in an Apple household, "in the new system, up to six people will be able to share purchases from iTunes, iBook and the App Store without having to share a single account," noted CNN.
The iOS 8 Download Basics
The new OS will be compatible for iPhone 4S models or newer, the iPad 2 and later models as well as the iPad Mini, the iPad Air and the iPod Touch 5, reported the LA Times.
Users looking to upgrade their system can do so as an over-the air update. You can download the upgrade through iTunes on the computer and apply to your devices accordingly.
Given that past major upgrades have resulted in glitches in the system and considering the demand, it's best to have your bases covered should anything go wrong during download and installment. Apple recommends that users back up their devices and content to iTunes or iCloud, instructions of which can be found in the Cupertino-based company's website.
Before downloading the iOS 8, make sure to free up some space. You will need about 1 GB of space to upgrade to the iOS 8. Check your storage space via the settings and prepare by deleting content for a smooth, hassle-free and quick download and installation.
