The NFL is made up of a wide variety of offensive attacks that try to pin their opponent's backs to the turf. While some offenses are more successful than others, there are not many teams who can bring the same level of offensive entertainment that the Philadelphia Eagles do week to week. In last week's game against Jacksonville, the Eagles found themselves down 17-0 entering into the third-quarter. The Eagles mounted a brilliant comeback, rattling off 34 unanswered points.
In much of the same way on Monday night, the Eagles found themselves down 20-6 with an offense that seemed to be sputtering along. The problem for the Eagles wasn't moving the ball, it was finishing when they finally made it to the 'redzone.' Redzone efficiency is extremely important and the best of the best consistently come away with touchdowns instead of field goals.
Although the Colts were putting on a commanding performance, they didn't possess the firepower to knock the Eagles out when they had the chance. A fumble by running back Trent Richardson and a costly late game interception sealed the Colts fate. On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts had little to no pass rush in the second half, which allowed Eagle's quarterback Nick Foles to throw for 331 yards passing, while Luck only amounted to 172 yards passing.
Newly acquired running back Darren Sproles was easily the player of the game for the Philadelphia Eagles. Sproles looked as if he was being controlled by a joystick as he weaved in an out of tackles, bouncing off the defense like the 5'6 pinball he is. Sproles is one of the best examples of how size does not always matter in the world of football.
After intercepting an Andrew Luck pass, which on the replay appeared to be due to pass interference, the Eagles were able to march down the field quickly. The final play was set with rookie kicker Cody Parker having his first chance at a game winning field goal. Parker had missed earlier in the game from 38-yards out, but now was his time to shine. Parker drilled the field goal in the closing seconds, as the Philadelphia Eagles became the first team in NFL history to start 2-0 after trailing by 14 points in the second half of their first two games.
