With no word on when the first film trailer will be released, Disney and Marvel have finally let the fans in on what can be expected in the upcoming Avengers sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," by releasing the official plot synopsis of the film.
Check out a part of the official plot from the studio via Complex:
"Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure."
The synopsis gives very little by way of actual twists and turns but it does confirm rumors about how Ultron came to be. Given the role of villainous Ultron in the film, it's crucial to have the right man for the job.
Stepping in to be the anti-hero, actor James Spader has been called in to play the role of Ultron. From Robert Downey Jr. to writer and director Joss Whedon, Spader has been hailed as the best choice for the role.
"Spader was my first and only choice. He's got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he's also very human and humorous. Ultron is not Hal. Spader can play all of the levels. He's the guy to break The Avengers into pieces," said Whedon on his casting choice, recalled Screen Rant.
The hugely successful "Avengers" was released in 2012, and it took in more than $1.5 billion in the box office worldwide. The second installment is expected to repeat or surpass what the first film achieved as it will feature the same superhero cast led by Robert Downey Jr., who is reprising his role as Iron Man.
Alongside the tech genius robot will be Chis Evans playing Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo returing as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and finally, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
'Age of Ultron' To Exceed Expectations?
Downey spoke about the film and called it a "very ambitious sequel" via Design & Trend. He explained, "If you read it, it's dense, it's smart. Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy." Adding a personal touch, he shares about his son's favorite character, and it's not Iron Man.
"My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There's always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I'm really excited about this one."
Catch the movie when it hits theaters next year, May 1, 2015.
