It is final. Chicago Bears cornerback, Charles Tillman, was forced to end his season this early due to a triceps injury, a tweet by the team confirmed.
The announcement came hours after Adam Caplan of ESPN tweeted about the possibility, as reported by SB Nation. The same injury removed "Peanut" from the Bears' player list at the second half of last season.
The 33-year-old's 2013 injury happened on Week 9 in a game with the Detroit Lions, CBS Sports said. The Bears placed the veteran on injured reserve-return then but could not take that option now after using the one available slot on wide receiver Marquess Wilson, it added.
According to SB Nation, Tillman suffered the latest injury after a tangle with San Francisco 49ers player, Michael Crabtree, during the third quarter of the Sunday Night Football game won by the Bears, 28-20.
The veteran player seemed to be dealing with a serious tear even before head athletic trainer, Chris Hanks, and a team physician ran tests, ESPN said.
Tillman was in a better place when he commented post-match, tweeting: "I know this isn't the news we all wanted to hear but as they say, stuff happens. I'm truly blessed to have so much support from you all."
He also told ChicagoFootball.com, through Kevin Fishbain, that he appreciated the fans' support since they learned about the muscle tear.
"I know this feeling way too well, but this isn't the end of the road for me. As I rehab my injury, my role will transition to helping coach and support my teammates," he told Fishbain, as seen in a Sept. 15 tweet. "I will be at Halas Hall and do everything I can to help our team reach its goals."
However, CBS Sports noted, the injury might hurt the aging athlete's chances of securing another one -year deal at the NFL. ESPN's Adam Schefter agreed in a tweet, echoing what a number of reports noted as a strong possibility.
According to the Bleacher Report, the recurring injury could mean a lot of trouble for the Chicago-based team, especially since it lost Chris Conte.
Tillman's figures cannot be ignored as well. SB Nation said he is third in the franchise's history in interceptions, contributing 36 since he was selected by the Bears in 2003, and is the league's second-ranked in fumbles, just behind Robert Malthis. He is also the NFL's leader in forced fumbles, with 42, ESPN said.
