The upcoming laptop is reportedly coming in a new set of colors, says a new report.

A Tech Website reported that the Cupertino tech giant is working on new color options for the next generation MacBook Air. The shades will allegedly follow that of the iPhone 6, which means that the much-anticipated Apple laptop could come in space grey, silver and gold colors.

Colored MacBook Air units will be a first, if ever. The device has kept with an "aluminum look" ever since its launch. There is also only one color available for the Apple laptop.

Though the news seems exciting, it should be noted that the alleged new color options have not been verified by Apple so it's best to tone down the excitement and take this with a grain of salt.

A Tech Website added that according to its source, the release date for the next generation MacBook Air has been pushed back, yet again. It was previously reported that the new units will make it in time for the holiday season at the end of 2014 but now, Apple is alleged to be looking at a mid 2015 release date for the laptops.

"The source says that Apple is aiming for a Mid 2015 launch for this product, however they do note the release date has been pushed back several times already so plans could change," said A Tech Website.

Rumored specs and features of the MacBook Air abound, with some of the most consistent as follows:

-       11-inch, 12-inch and 13-inch sized laptops

-       to ship with 14-nm Broadwell Y Core M chips

-       to ship with Retina display

-       to ship with OS X Yosemite

-       fanless design

-       new click-less trackpad

-       thinner body

Given that Apple has upgraded the MacBook Air a bit a few months ago, upping the laptop's processing speed and battery life, a 2015 release date for the alleged MacBook Air with Retina display and all the goodies aforementioned seem more likely than the previously rumored Christmas 2014 reveal.

Rumors have not pinpointed a price for the future MacBook Air model but Apple tags the current model with the below pricing.

13-inch 128GB MacBook Air - $999.00

13-inch 256GB MacBook Air - $1,199.00

The iPhone-maker has slashed $100 off prices for the older MacBook Air models, leading many to think that a newer model could really be underway.
