"T-Mobile offers the best upgrades in wireless. Period"--this is the company's thrust which gives rise to constant innovation of its products.
CEO John Legere said on Wednesday, "'Wi-Fi Unleashed' is a game changer." His statement during "Uncarrier 7.0", a T-Mobile event where the company unveiled its plans to offer free Wi-Fi services to subscribers.
"Wi-Fi Unleashed" caters free calling and texting services. PC Mag reported that the program leverages its early adoption of the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) standard. Over the years, T-Mobile has worked to enable Wi-Fi calling capabilities seemingly as a move to outperform the expensive coverage provided by other major carriers.
In another report, PC Mag quoted T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray in reporting that the Wi-Fi calling experience is at par with the security and capacity of traditional wireless and cellular networks. Simply put, customers can make HD voice calls without compromise, as long as a Wi-Fi network is available.
Calls can also be made while connected to one of T-Mobile's towers. Users can roam between these two connections while having a single call.
The feature will work with T-Mobile's every new smartphone, which comes Wi-Fi-enabled. Mashable said in a report that this ability for Wi-Fi calling and texting is required to be built-in by manufacturers.
But what about T-Mobile's previous customers? Do they need to purchase new smartphones to use the feature?
T-Mobile gives a fair deal through its "JUMP!" program. Customers can trade their existing smartphones for another handset that comes with the Wi-Fi-enabled feature.
"JUMP!" is the company's revolutionary upgrade program that works by buying a phone or tablet, getting a Simple Choice plan, and financing the device through T-Mobile. The customer then enrolls in "JUMP!" for $10 a month, allowing purchase of a new device.
Upgrade can be done anytime by trading the eligible device, and T-Mobile covers remaining device payments up to half of the device's cost.
"JUMP!" also grants security if ever the device gets lost, damaged, or stolen - much like a protective warranty--through the Premium Handset Protection® and Lookout Mobile Security®.
To intensify "Wi-Fi Unleashed," T-Mobile will also offer a free customized Wi-Fi router, according to CNET. It is compatible with the company's smartphones. Mashable reported this feature as "CellSpots", and comes with a $25 deposit.
In addition, Mashable said that T-Mobile has partnered with Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi Service to offer free text messages, picturing messages, and visual voicemail on air in any US-based airline.
