Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki went head to head on the tennis court during the 2014 US Open, but don't think the same goes off court.
Williams, 32, overtook Wozniacki, 24, at the Women's Singles finals in two sets, 6 to 3 in both, in a game highlighted by the scene when the victor lay down on the court with her face in her hands, Us Weekly said. While there was a noticeable fury on both finalists' faces before then, though, one can be sure that outside of lawn tennis, the two are friends.
Still according to the Us Weekly report, the competitors had a night out after the faceoff, and the losing side congratulated Williams via the post above. She captioned it: "Thank you everybody for the incredible support these weeks! It was a good run, unfortunately lost to a better player today! Congrats @serenawilliams on #18, well deserved!"
In an interview, Wozniacki congratulated her "bestie" saying: "You're an unbelievable friend ... and you definitely owe drinks later," per For The Win. Williams agreed and, approximately six hours after, both were enjoying the night.
Based on William's Instagram photo, the postgame revelry was attended by model Gigi Hadid. Recording star Joe Jonas was also in attendance.
Just minutes after Wozniacki posted the earlier photo, Maria Sharapova posted a tweet, captioned: "Weekend solitude," hashtagged "inspired." It had almost 800 retweets and almost 2,400 favorites as of press time.
For The Win reported that the timing of Sharapova's post was not a "coincidence."
Sports World News said there was a feud between Williams and Sharapova. The alleged feud, believed to have started in the summer of 2013, was reportedly over their love lives, said the outlet. The two later on agreed to stop fighting, the report added.
It would turn out that the truce had expired if Sharapova really was trolling the Instagram post. Trolling or not, it appears that the US Open champ is too busy to care.
Us Weekly said that Williams does not have enough time to think about the rumored jealousy. "The tennis is over and now it's about my passion for fashion," she told the report, saying even the victory celebration might have to be cut short.
Serena Williams' very own clothing collection on HSN consists of leggings, tops and dresses among many other casual wear items. The collection will be displayed during New York Fashion Week on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
