Basketball players and brothers, Goran and Zoran Dragic, will continue working together even after the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. The Phoenix Suns are intending to acquire Zoran to play alongside his brother in Phoenix, reports say.
Zoran, who, according to ESPN, is still in contract in Spain with Unicaja Malaga, can opt to transfer before the beginning of the new season or pay a hefty buyout fee which is stipulated in his current contact. But the report also said that if he chooses to stay in Spain, his NBA career will be a bit delayed as he is still in contract until next year.
As for the Phoenix move to acquire Zoran, experts speculate that this is a strategy to keep his brother Goran in the team as a free agency option will be applicable for him in 2015. Joining him in this unrestricted agency option is teammate, Eric Bledsoe, and their absence will open two slots on the Phoenix roster.
Goran has attracted the spotlight last season when he earned the All-NBA Third Team honors recognition for his amazing play as a point guard.
Aside from the Suns, ESPN said that the Indiana Pacers is also planning to acquire Zoran. Goran's little brother will play as a shooting guard in the NBA in case he signs with one of the teams. He has also been a very vital part of the Slovenian team in the FIBA World Cup, contributing points for every game.
Fan Sided even noted that he averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds during the World Cup games.
Goran, in an interview, described his brother as an "awesome player." "He was our best player on the court. It means a lot to play with him. We don't see each other so often. OK, on Skype, but it's not the same. Now it's a perfect situation for us to play together with the national team. We can share the court and maybe do some damage [with the national team]. And hopefully someday we can play each other in the NBA," Goran told ESPN.
In case Zoran decides to join the Suns this upcoming NBA season, he will be playing with players like Gerald Green, Marcus Morris, P.J. Tucker, Alex Len, Miles Plumlee, Archie Goodwin, Shavlik Randolph, T.J. Warren, Tyler Ennis, Anthony Tolliver and Isaiah Thomas.
The team, according to ESPN, ranked 13th during the previous season and acquired a game record of 47-33. They were not able to reach the playoffs after the Los Angeles Lakers beat them last March 30.
Now the team is definitely hoping to bounce back from the sad ending last season and the hope is joined by the possibility that Zoran will sign with the team and play with his brother.
