"Transformers 5" may be gearing for another set of changes as reports say new franchise lead, Mark Wahlberg, may not be making a return for the upcoming sequel.
While Wahlberg's latest installment was the highest grossing film for the franchise, the Inquisitr reports he may not be coming back for a second movie.
This is the second major change following the departure of Michael Bay as director. Bay, who has directed all four franchise films, acknowledged that there's a lot of unexplored story lines but he believes they're "for the next director to figure out," per IndieWire.
He explains the time and difficulty of making the films and he's not in a different phase of his career. "There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make," Bay explained. "I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."
It was thought that Wahlberg, along with his new cast including Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor, would have a trilogy but Enstarz explains that with the exit of Bay, the retention of the trio is uncertain.
LaBeouf-Fox Returns?
With the casting of "Transformers 5" undergoing some major changes, word around town is that original love team, Shia LaBeouf and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" actress Megan Fox, may be seen in a series comeback.
Speaking to E! News previously, Fox has already confirmed her willingness to get back on the "Transformers" set if asked.
"If [Bay] ever wanted me to do a cameo like assembling an autobot motorcycle in a bike shop or something like that, I would totally do it," said the actress.
Additionally, back in mid-July, when asked if she was involved in the upcoming fifth flick, Fox said, per Movie Pilot: "I'm not sure if ill return. As long as things are good between everyone and Shia returns with me I'd like to see us partner up with the new cast like a crossover."
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" brought in a massive $352 million at the domestic box office and totaled $1.12 billion globally, proving that the franchise has got a loyal following.
There is no word on the exact release date but many insiders claim the flick is due out by the summer of 2016. To give you an idea of what the last film was like, below is the trailer for "Age of Extinction":
