Veteran stage and actress, Molly Glynn, died after being struck by a falling tree during a fast-moving storm.

The 46-year-old was biking with husband, Joe Foust, 45, on Friday, when an uprooted tree fell on her, reported CBS. 

The actress, who had a recurring role as an ER nurse on NBC's "Chicago Fire," died at the NorthShore Evanston Hospital the following day due to sustained injuries. 

According to the Chicago Tribune, Foust details how he was riding ahead of his wife when she yelled they should take cover, and within seconds, an uprooted tree fell and hit his wife, who was wearing a helmet. The site further reported that the weather during the time of the storm blew winds north of 70 mph with some reporting gusts reaching 80 mph per meteorologist Gino Izzo of the National Weather Service.

Foust has been updating friends, family and fans over his Facebook account. On Friday, he wrote: "Friends, this is the darkest day of my life. Things will never be the same. Molly got hit by a falling tree while we were biking. At hospital now. Prognosis is grim."

"I couldn't save her. I couldn't save her. She's gone," said a grief-stricken Joe at the passing of his wife, over his social media page. 

Foust and Glynn were married for about four years after meeting at the Chicago Shakespeare theater in the 1990s, noted the Sydney Morning Herald. Glynn is survived by her husband and two teenage boys, Chance, 17, and Declan, 13.

"She was a loving mother and wife and everyone who met her fell in love with her," said Michael Halberstam, Writers Theatre artistic director, said in a statement via CBS. 

"It is an incalculable loss to the Chicago theatre community, particularly as she was in the process of emerging as one of the city's major players. She possessed a rare combination of talent, heart and beauty in all aspects of her life," he continued.

Actress Sophia Bush has also said her condolences at the tragic death of the actress. On Twitter, the former "One Tree Hill" star wrote: "Saddened to hear about the tragic passing of Molly Glynn, a much loved member of the #ChicagoFire."
