The only thing more certain than the advancement of new technology is the obsolescence of old technology. Apple is set to unveil the latest in its popular iPhone line on the morning of September 9th. One of the things that everyone seems most curious about is just how big of a leap this will be from the iPhone 5s. With many specs from the iPhone 6 being leaked already, it is easy to make a side by side comparison between the two phones to see the answer.
Many of the specs have not been revealed by Apple, so it's important to note that all of the specs brought up here are strictly informed rumors until Tuesday morning. With that said, this is the gist of what can be expected.
First and foremost is the screen. This is the most touted feature to come up in the iPhone 6 with two sizes likely to be announced for the phone on day one. The iPhone 6 will either be 4.7 inches or 5.5 inches, up from the 4 inches of the iPhone 5s. This is Apple's first foray into the large format phones that Android carriers have made their names off of, so it is obviously the feature with the most hype.
The screen will also feature a new sapphire glass display to help prevent scratches and shattering. The bigger screens will also be host to a big bump up in pixel resolution and density at 1704x960 px vs the 1136x640 px of the iPhone 5s.
Battery power will also be seeing a minor boost but only up to 1810 mAh vs the 1570 mAh of the iPhone 5s. Seeing as how this was something that iPhone users have been clamoring for for the longest time, it is not hard to understand why this a disappointment for many fans.
Keeping with the tradition that every generation has to be thinner as well as better, the iPhone 6 will be about a millimeter smaller at 6.5 mm and will also be water resistant, which should help alleviate some of the stigma that Apple has had to deal with in regards to their phones being too fragile.
Finally, the camera will also be receiving an upgrade from 8 MP to 13 MP. That comes with additional built-in optical image stabilization to detect vibrations in the camera and automatically center out the image for the optimum quality.
Apple is coming off a week of bad press with their stock down with the celebrity photo leaks from iCloud combined with Samsung and Motorola rolling out their latest products for the end of the year. But the company just has to get their fans excited for a new product to get things in their favor once again.
