Apple Fans Already Lining Up Weeks Ahead of iPhone 6 Launch

So, Apple is expected to announce a new iPhone and perhaps smartwatch next Tuesday, Sept 9 in Cuptertino, Ca., but the fact that these products haven't been officially acknowledged by Apple hasn't stopped lines from already forming outside of Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York. Some reports indicate that the line may have originally formed on or around Aug. 31, and with the iPhone expected to go on sale on Sept. 19, that would mean these people are willing to wait nearly three weeks a head of time for a product they know nothing about. Can you say disposable income?

Recode reports that one couple already waiting in the Fifth Avenue line drove all the way from Mississippi in order to snag an iPhone 6 on the day it comes out. And what's more, the couple paid the two men in front of them $1,250 each so they could have the mens' spots at the head of the line.

Moon and Jason Ray (yes, her last name is Ray as well--Moon Ray) have been waiting in the line since last Monday and they apparently look more ready to do hardcore camping than sit in a line. According to Recode, the Rays have sleeping bags, air mattresses, chairs, a tarp and a solar-powered battery charger.

"We're committed to longevity," explained Moon Ray. "We're here for as long as it takes to be here."

The two men the Rays paid money to in order to be first in line are apparently a couple of veteran line-sitters, Brian Ceballo and Joseph Cruz. Ceballo and Cruz do this every year, and they even have a sponsor (BuyBackWorld) whose t-shirts they were wearing as they waited in line. Apparently they arrived on Sunday, one day before the Rays, in an attempt to break their previous Apple line record of 15 days.

But there's more to the story. The Rays are also getting paid to be in line early. Jason Ray is a "consultant" for Video Medicine, a company that has created a "telemedicine" app that launches on Sept. 8. Guerilla marketing, ladies and gentleman.

"I'm still doing my job out here," explained Jason Ray. "It's entertaining just to watch New York happen." Little does he know he is now part of the happening.

Apple will announce the iPhone 6 on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 am PT, and you can watch the event live on their website.
