Apple is expected to unveil it's first wearable next Tuesday during its iPhone 6 event. And while many have already dubbed the device the "iWatch," no one knows for sure what Apple is going to call it. But, we're going to call it the iWatch anyway. There are, however, some things we do know about the device thanks to a few leaks. So, if you can't wait for Tuesday, keep on reading and we'll fill you in on everything we currently know about Apple's "iWatch."
Health and Fitness Tracking
Basically, every mobile device now tracks either your activity, diet or vital signs, and Apple is finally getting on board with the trend with its announced HealthKit suite. HealthKit will pull data from all your fitness apps and provide you with a central hub for keeping track of all your health info. One of the ways Apple will track all this is with the iWatch, which will feed real-time stats to your iPhone, like heart-rate, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, ambient temp, UV index, steps taken, sleep info and calories burned.
Notification Center
The watch will be able to receive notifications from your iPhone when calls, texts, emails or other messages arrive. Expect the device to pair with your phone over Bluetooth, which most likely means it won't be able to make or receive calls or texts on its own.
Two Sizes
There have been rumors of different iWatch display sizes, and this is most likely because Apple is building two separate models, in order to more readily accomodate those who prefer a larger or smaller watches. The larger size is rumored to be up to 2.5-inches, and the smaller size maye be around 1.3-inches.
Design: Shape Still Unknown
No one knows for sure if we're dealing with a square or round face design, or if Apple will do something revolutionary with the iWatch's design altogether. Conflicting reports have stated that the iWatch will have a round or square design, so, at this point, it's anyone's guess.
There are somethings we do know about the display, including that it will be curved. This could mean that it will be something like the Samsung Gear S, but that's just speculation. Sapphire glass is supposed cover the display, making it far more resistant to scratching. Apple already uses sapphire glass to cover the Touch ID sensor on the iPhone 5S and its camera lens.
The screen will be powered by OLED technology, which will help with battery life since OLED screens can turn off pixels that are not in use, like when an image displayed has black in it.
Availability: 2015
That's right. Don't expect to pick this device up until after the new year. The reason being, Apple hasn't begun full production of its new wearable yet. So, while Apple should announce the iWatch Tuesday, they most likely won't be selling it until after the holiday season has passed.
