After teasing the Gear S smartwatch last week, Samsung finally unveiled its latest wearable Wednesday for the world to see, and so far it seems promising. The Gear S has a curved 2-inch AMOLED screen and also 3G capability, meaning that the smartwatch can operate independently of your phone and make a receive calls or texts all on its own.

The display on the Gear S has a resolution of 260x480 and the rest of the hardware is impressive. The smartwatch boasts a GPS sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope, UV sensor, heart-rate monitor and barometer. That's more sensors onboard than most high-end phones. Impressive. As far as specs, the Gear S has 4GB of internal memory alongside 512MB of RAM and a 1.0 dual-core processor. And it will be running Samsung's own Tizen OS and not Android Wear.

As we stated, users can make and receive calls from the device, and if you don't want to talk into your wrist while using the Gear S, Samsung is also launching the Circle Bluetooth headset.

Initial impressions from Tech Crunch called the Gear S "huge and clunky," though they did say they liked the display. Apparently it also has a full QWERTY keyboard that allows users to text from the phone, although it appears accurately typing messages on a 2-inch screen can prove difficult. Fortunately, Samsung has included their S Voice voice recognition platform which can transcribe speech into text.

No official price or launch info has been released by Samsung at this time, but expect the Gear S to be available to consumers sometime next month.
