With the official announcement of the iPhone 6 just days away, the rumor-mill has been going full-tilt as reported leaks are coming out at break-neck pace in anticipation of the device's launch. We've grabbed all the latest rumors from around the web on what should be this year's hottest smart phone, so please, enjoy.
iPhone Air Dimensions Revealed
So apparently the larger, 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 is going to be called the iPhone Air. A foreign tech site, Nowhereelse, has just leaked photos of the iPhone Air's shell, and they also placed it next to a ruler, so we can pretty much ascertain what the dimensions of the phone will be. If this leak is to be believed, the iPhone Air will measure 158 x 78 x 7 milimeters. By comparison, the iPhone 5S measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 milimeters.
While nothing is known for certain, the latest rumors suggest only the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be shown at Apple's Sept. 9 event, with the iPhone Air making its debut later this year or early next year.
iPhone Air Shell Leaks in Hands-On Video
Nowhereelse again has the scoop on the iPhone Air with this video allegedly showing off the larger iPhone 6's housing. This larger iPhone 6 model's name is still unclear but many are referring to it as the iPhone Air or iPhone 6L. Either way, the larger iPhone 6 is reported to feature a 5.5-inch screen, 1GB of RAM and an NFC chip to support mobile payments.
Credit Card Companies On-Board for iPhone 6 Mobile Payments
The iPhone 6 reportedly will include an NFC chip to support Apple's rumored 'iWallet' mobile payment solution. The latest rumors indicate that Apple has partnered with a few of the largest credit card companies in order to make this new payment system a success. These companies include Master Card, Visa and American Express. This new mobile payment system is reportedly going to be announced at next week's Sept. 9 launch event for the iPhone 6.
Apple has been tinkering with the idea of mobile payments for years, as evidenced by certain patents they've filed in recent years, but they have never gone ahead with its implementation until now--maybe.
About a month ago, rumors surfaced regarding a new reversible USB cable that Apple might launch with the iPhone 6. The new cable was thought to be a way of making connecting iOS devices to computer USB ports easier. Well, new reports suggest that this redesigned connection will not appear on new iOS devices due to "cost reasons." While the components of such a connector have leaked, it appears that Apple will not be going ahead with a release at this time. Bummer.
