The companies behind the hit game claim that the actress only sued them for publicity purposes.
The Associated Press reported that according to "Manhattan court papers made public Tuesday, Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. and subsidiary Rockstar Games call the case frivolous and maintain it was 'filed for publicity purposes.'"
It can be recalled that Lindsay Lohan made headlines in July after claiming that "Grand Theft Auto 5"'s Lacey Jonas character was patterned after her. The character was reportedly an "unequivocal" reference to her, said Lohan.
As we previously reported, the "Mean Girls" actress claims that the character made use of her image, voice and clothing line's styles without permission.
However, according to Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., as reported by the Associated Press, Lohan's voice, name and likeness were not used in the game. "The character resembles her only in being a young, blonde woman," said the report.
The Lacey Jonas character is part of a mission in "GTA 5" which involves having to lose paparazzi and taking the alleged Lohan digital creation home safe and sound.
The title also makes use of a Chateau Marmont-like establishment. Incidentally, the West Hollywood hotel housed the actress in the past.
The Associated Press said that Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. and subsidiary Rockstar Games intends to have the lawsuit against them "dismissed." The two companies are also intending to have the actress cover their legal fees.
If the "Grand Theft Auto 5" makers claim of being used for publicity is indeed true, then Lohan did a pretty good job at choosing which title to associate herself with. The game, per IGN, made a whooping $800 million in one day alone and has sold 33 million copies. That's a lot of Lacey Jonas!
Initially released in 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, "GTA 5" drops on next-gen game consoles PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC by fall of 2014.
"Grand Theft Auto V will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail. Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions all work together to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North's epic reimagining of Southern California," said Rockstar Games.
Do you think Lindsay Lohan only used "GTA 5" to draw attention or is Lacey Jonas really the actress' prototype?
