Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao will not "waste his time" waiting and anticipating for a fight against undefeated American fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr.
This was the statement of Pacquiao's coach, Freddie Roach, who noted that they have already spent so much of their time waiting for Mayweather's camp to agree to a fight but until now no clear schedule or details have been ironed out.
"We can't waste our time waiting for him. We've done everything we could to make that fight happen. It's like, we're available if he's interested in it, but again we can't sit around waiting for him," Roach was quoted by ESPN as saying.
Pacquiao, during one of his press tours for his upcoming fight with Chris Algieri in Macau on November 23, even joked that he did not know who Mayweather is. ESPN said that the showdown between the two equally competent fighters is still far from happening.
"The possibility to fight with him, you know, the question is not for us. It's for them because any time we are willing to fight, any time. I think that question belongs to them, their camp," Pacquiao added.
It can be recalled that Pacquiao and Mayweather almost agreed to face each other in 2010 in one of the biggest fights in boxing history but did not push through when Mayweather demanded that Pacquiao undergo blood testing.
The talks for a future fight nowadays are also becoming bleak as both boxers have deals with opposing networks: Showtime and HBO.
A report by AFP, which was quoted by local Philippine news network, GMA, mentioned Top Rank Bob Arum saying that the two networks will "find a way to promote and satisfy both sides from a legal basis," prior to ironing out the details of the most-awaited fight in boxing history.
"With Showtime and HBO wanting the fight and Manny wanting the fight, there is one little step to take and that's to see where Floyd stands," Arum added.
Earlier reports revealed that Pacquiao and Mayweather are expected to fight in 2015 after the American boxer hinted that boxing fans should anticipate a surprise next year.
Mayweather is set to face Marcos Maidana next month in a rematch while Pacquiao is reportedly being pushed to face Juan Manuel Marquez for the fifth time after his fight against Algieri.
But AFP said that there is a great possibility that the fight will not prosper as Pacquiao is set to retire from Top Rank in two years time. Mayweather, on the other hand, is already 37 years old and is also hoping to seal a fight against Amir Khan next year.
The report also noted that there could also be a chance that they face off on the ring if they remain unbeaten until next year and before the end of their respective contracts.
