Miley Cyrus made another surprising move at the recent 2014 MTV VMAs event by bringing an unknown date who is now reported to be wanted by the police.

The singer's date, 22-year-old Jesse Helt, has a warrant of arrest waiting for him in Oregon, according to the Associated Press. The news agency added that Helt was charged of criminal trespass, burglary and mischief four years ago. Court records reportedly show that he trespassed a man's home who is believed to be a marijuana seller.

He was sentenced to spend 30 days jail time and probation. However, a warrant of arrest was issued in November 2011 when Helt violated probation. He moved to L.A. where he tried to find some modeling stints, AP added.

Helt came to know the "Bangerz" singer and songwriter through My Friend's Place, a center for the homeless. Apart from appearing at the event as Cyrus' red carpet date, he also accepted the 21-year-old singer's award for Video of the Year category.

"I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost, and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people," Helt said.

Soon after the VMAs, Helt's mother, Linda, confirmed the identity of her son who is a native of Salem, Oregon, in a report on OregonLive.com.

It was also discovered by Spin that he attended community college and landed a job once at the Oregon State Fair. An excerpt from his Facebook account stated, "I'm really super nice.and i get along with most people.i hate haters and lazy fat people.and fake-chistians.i only love those who love themselves."

Despite police officials expressing their intent to arrest Helt soon, the former Hannah Montana star sent out her message about the issue via Twitter.

The three messages Cyrus tweeted through her social media account said:

"People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included."

"I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it."

"Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?"

At the moment, AP adds that a sign is posted outside Helt's family home which reads: "Only family & friends & neighbors at this time."
