The latest Nexus news tells us that Google's next flagship Android handset will not be incrementally named, but rather will bear the mysterious label: Nexus X. Sounds awesome, right? Plus it makes sense that they didn't go with 'Nexus 6," after all, that would mean that next year's handset would be the Nexus 7. See what I mean? More good news is that benchmarks and specs for the Nexus X have already leaked. Let's check em' out.

BGR reports that these latest leaks come from screen shots published by TKTechNews, and which purportedly confirm the Nexus X's high-end specs. The phone is said to include a 2K display, a Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a camera with a 13-megapixel sensor. 32GB? Really Google? Sheesh.

These latest screen shots also reveal the next Nexus' actual name, which, up until this point, many were speculating would be 'Nexus 6.' Yet that's not to be. TK Tech's photos reveal the device will actually be called the Nexus X, which could get a little confusing with Motorola's Moto X and Moto X2 phones; although, it all makes sense now since Motorola is said to be manufacturing the new Nexus handset. Geez, Motorola, get over your 'X' fixation already. Moto Z, anyone?

The screen grabs also give us the Nexus' AnTuTu benchmark score (35,430) and confirm the software build as Android '5.0.' That's big news because Google has yet to announce whether Android L (the next major software update to Android OS) was going to be a smaller incremental update to Kitkat or a larger step forward. I mean, it's been THREE YEARS since Google released Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), so we are definitely due for a huge update to the OS.

Part of the reason it's taken so long is because Android 4.0 has been so spectacular that Google really had no reason to rush into something else. With ICS three years ago, Android finally matured into a stable, rich and beautiful OS that for once didn't need any third-party skin (like Samsung's 'Touch Wiz' or HTC's 'Sense UI') to make it pretty enough or intuitive enough for the masses to use it.

As far as Android 5.0's name goes, Android L most likely stands for Lemon Meringue Pie, according to reports. But don't rule out lolly pop.

Insiders are also claiming that the Nexus X will most likely be released at the end of October, perhaps even on October 31st, just like the Nexus 5 last year. It will be interesting to see what Google does in terms of Marketing the Nexus X. The Nexus 5 just appeared on the Google Play Store without any warning last Halloween. Will they do the same for the Nexus X this year?
