Newly traded Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love was welcomed in his home team with a huge billboard from Starter, the clothing company where he acts as an ambassador.
Downtown Cleveland is now adorned with a gigantic billboard of Love who became an official Cavalier last weekend when his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves was finalized.
The billboard, according to Fox Sports, is placed in a prime spot at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Huron Road East. Love is seen sporting a retro Cavs jacket which Starter claimed they have been selling since 2013.
Last weekend, the Wolves sent Love to Cleveland in exchange for NBA Draft's overall No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins.
"Kevin joining the Cavaliers represents a very special and unique opportunity for our team. At only 25, Kevin has already firmly established himself as one of the NBA's elite players and his talent, versatility and fit are major parts of our team's vision for success," said Cavs general manager David Griffin in a statement quoted by ESPN.
The same report noted that the trade has been discussed for months already but has dragged on longer than expected due to Cleveland's refusal to include Wiggins in a package.
The trade also meant that Love, who is considered to be one of the best power forwards in the NBA, will be playing alongside LeBron James. ESPN said that he will also be joining All-star point guard Kyrie Irving in the Cavs lineup.
James has already expressed his excitement to play with Love on the court after the trade was announced.
"I'm going to be very excited to have him. I don't really care about the 26 (points) and 12 (rebounds). I care about the basketball IQ. His basketball IQ is very, very high. He's a great piece," James told ESPN in an earlier interview.
The Star, in a separate report, said that Love's arrival in Cleveland caps a two-month turnaround for the team who won only 33 during the previous season and has not been participating in the playoffs since 2010, the year when James left the team.
Love has a career record of 26.1 points , 4.4 assists and 12.5 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 37.6 percent from the 3-point line. He is now tied with the Cavs for a 4-year contract worth $60.83 million.
Wiggins, on the other hand, will now be playing for the Wolves after recently signing a deal with the Cavs. Bleacher Report said that James was initially looking forward to mentoring the rookie but reports later on surfaced that the start player chose teaming up with Love over the rookie draft. The team also earlier denied rumors of the Wiggins trade saying the player will stay with the team no matter what.
