The actress is not pleased upon discovering a show that is reportedly very identical her U.S. TV series.
"Ugly Betty" gained a massive following during its first three seasons and its success can be attributed, in part, to the people behind the show. The series, based on Fernando Gaitan's Colombian telenovela, "Yo soy Betty, la fea," was executively produced by Salma Hayek, Silvio Horta, Ben Silverman, Jose Tamez, and Joel Fields.
The show also has a Hindi counterpart, "Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin," integrating an Indian theme to the story. Now, an unofficial "Ugly Betty" copy is making news and the show does not sit well with Salma Hayek.
Albawaba reported that "hibat rajol al ghorab," which stars Egyptian actress Amy Samir Ghanem, has ticked off the Latina actress.
"... Hollywood actress Salma Hayek is totes unhappy with the makers of Amy's show for allegedly stealing most of the creative ideas she put into the making of Ugly Betty," said the outlet.
"As the famous show's producer, Salma assigned her legal counsel to procure moral and material rights following the damage caused to her," it added.
The said show reportedly copied "Salma's own ideas, events, clothing and decors," Albawaba reported.
The outlet revealed that what "truly enraged" the actress was Amy Samir Ghanem's "mediocre" portrayal of Betty.
The young Egyptian actress, according to IMDb, has a slew of acting credits under her belt including "Bolbol Hayran," "Samir wa Shahir wa Bahir," "Ghesh Al Zawgeyya" and "Super Henedi," among others.
Amy has posted two photos on Instagram captioned "Heba Crowfoot" when translated. A show posted on El Cinema titled "Heba Rigl el Ghorab," which in English means "Heba, the Crow's Leg," lists the actress as one of the cast.
Although the show does not bear the exact same title as the show mentiond in the Albawaba report, there's a high chance that it is the same TV series referred to by the outlet.
Other actors and actresses in the show, based on the El Cinema listing, include Hazem Sameer, Tamer Yousry, Reham Hagag, Ashraf Tolpa, Said Saleh, Hanan Soliman and Azza Lebeeb.
"This comedy revolves around an ordinary girl who works in one of the big fashion houses, where she is exposed to people of a higher social strata. The experience leaves her with the feeling that she is not beautiful, meanwhile her profession puts her in a series of dramatic and bizarre situations," reads the show's storyline.
Sounds familiar? Take a look at the show's first episode in the video below. What do you think? Was Salma Hayek right on?
