The Tesla Model S is one of the most coveted cars on the road today, and thanks to Saleen Automotive, America's best electric car just got better--if you've got the money to pay for it, that is. The Saleen Foursixteen, a modified Tesla Model S, made its debut this year at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and to say it stole the show would be an understatement. 

According to the New York Daily News, Saleen added aerodynamic enhancements in addition to the obligatory luxury touches and performance boost associated with its world famous brand. 

"[With the Model S] Tesla has created an entirely new class of American automobile", Saleen stated in a released statement. "There are many similarities to this and how Ford created the 'pony car' class in 1964 with the Mustang, which is how these vehicles stand out from the rest of the pack."

New aerodynamic enhancements include front fascia and a carbon fiber rear diffuser as well as some minor cosmetic tweaks. 

Performance upgrades include a beefed up Saleen drivetrain with an 11.39:1 final gear ratio intended to provide additional power when the car accelerates. With that upgrade comes enhanced cooling of the drivetrain to make sure things don't get too hot, which should also ensure reliable performance. 

Saleen's VP of Advanced Engineering, Sven Etzelsberger, explained the methodology behind the project: "Our challenge was really to find methods to manage the energy that is generated by the electric motor and rotor assembly. With the FOURSIXTEEN we have successfully found a comprehensive solution to increase performance and harness power in an efficient manner."

But wait. There's more. 

Saleen has also added a bunch of cues to the car's interior to make sure anyone who rides in it knows that you're no ordinary Tesla owner. Oh no. Carbon fiber highlights and hand-picked leather and suede greet the lucky owners of the Foursixteen. The center console also gets an upgrade, complete with smart phone holder and cupholder. 

Saleen's Design Director, Sean Smith, elaborated on the ideas that went into the Foursixteen's interior design: "Our design team spent a lot of time evaluating different materials, fitments, and finishes to accomplish the refined interior design of the FOURSIXTEEN while still keeping the modern sports car inspiration intact." 

There's also good news for current Model S owners. Saleen announced they would be selling certain components of the Foursixteen individually. 

The Saleen Foursixteen is reported to have a starting price of around $152,000.
