Some want to be like Justin Verlander while others just want his life--as in his beau.

Little Leaguer Clayton Broeder, from Pearland, Texas, is "envious," the Bleacher Report said, admitting to ESPN that he wants to meet model Kate Upton, the Detroit Tigers star's girlfriend.

Mashable reported that Broeder, 12, "stepped up to the plate" by choosing to meet the Sports Illustrated model over Mike Trout or Hunter Pence. Larry Brown Sports quipped that the second best hitter in his team might have seen Upton's Cat Daddy video. 

Meanwhile, Half of Very Good said that while others' dreams would be playing in the World Series or going on live television, Broeder, an outfielder/ pitcher, "has his sights set a little higher."

He used his five minutes of fame to boost himself outside of the baseball action, For The Win said, adding that his dream "to meet Kate Upton" was on his ESPN graphic, captured in this Covers tweet. Well, that was his ticket to the national spotlight, Sports Illustrated said. 

He might meet Trey Hondras, who talks to girls before games as a good luck charm, at one of the Little League gatherings, For The Win added.

Mashable also saw that propensity in the Little League. While pro baseball artists have things like walk-up music, it said, the players--just between 11 and 13--at the Little League World Series rely on, well, girls. They just "share a fixation common to the middle-school male," the report said.

It also said, Texas' Presley Smith's pregame ritual was "talking to girls."

The 12-year-old Hondras' bio states that talking to girls--plural--is his pregame four-leaf clover. He went on national television for the first time in his life, introducing himself like that to the world, Time said. 

On the other hand--and in the same fashion--Smith told the world that he is no ordinary baseball player. He is "an actual player," the New York Magazine said. Unfortunately, though, he was out at first base.

Broeder's chances are not slim, considering Upton is in a relationship with Verlander. But then again, the couple is in a happy place, if Upton's ice bucket challenge can be entered as evidence.

Upton, 22, teamed up with her boyfriend, 31, to accept the ALS Association challenge which has swept social media of late, Hollywood Life said. They assisted each other and laughed while doing it, it added.

If it is true that the model is pregnant--which is strengthened by the fact that while other babes wore bikinis in accomplishing the challenge, she wore two oversized tops and knee-length yoga pants--Broeder's chances could be much slimmer.
