Cung Le would fight Anderson Silva if he had the chance.
"I would love to fight Anderson Silva, it would be awesome to fight someone you look up to so much," he said, as quoted by the Telegraph. "It's an honor to even been involved in a conversation about fighting him."
Not too long ago, Le and Silva were on top of the world, the former as Strikeforce middleweight champion and the latter taking the division title in the UFC, Fox Sports said. That time, Le and his promoter talked about a possible fight versus Silva, the report added, noting that both have lost their titles eventually.
On August 23, the Vietnamese martial arts star will face British middleweight fighter, Michael Bisping, in China. If Le wins against Bisping at the main event, he can once again dream to fight Silva, Fox Sports said.
A win would "put him in a very advantageous position in the middleweight division," it said, adding that Le has expressed that he wants to find "the most interesting fights possible" as he isn't getting any younger and with his second career in the movie industry also taking his time.
Le told the Great MMA Debate podcast that Silva is among those interesting fights, saying: "He's one of the greatest. Sometimes styles matchup perfectly against other styles and Anderson just happened to find his kryptonite in Chris Weidman."
"It just happened that his last fight ended really bad with that broken shin bone. I'm amazed that he's back and ready to fight in January," he said, as quoted by Fox Sports. "For some reason if there's an opportunity to fight Anderson, of course I would love to fight the legend. He is a legend, I look up to him and it would be an honor to fight him."
But Le said Bisping is his priority at the moment.
Bisping reportedly unleashed barbs over the last few weeks, forcing the 40-year-old to react and say "Bisping is just putting pressure on himself with all this talk, it just makes me laugh. I come from a war-torn country where I lived in two refugee camps - his bullying doesn't bother me.
"I'm taking one fight at a time. I've trained and put the hard work in, whatever happens on August 23 I know I've done everything I can to come out victorious," he said, as quoted by Telegraph. "I've had three surgeries in four months, I'm kicking myself that I didn't do it earlier but I always worked around them. I don't know where I stand in the division, we'll find out on the 23rd, I just want to be on an exciting fight."
According to MMA Mania, "UFC Fight Night 48: 'Bisping vs. Le' is up first from inside Venetian Cotai Arena in Macau, China" while "Dong Hyun Kim looks to continue his winning streak against Tyron Woodley in the co-main event."
