Samsung Electronics confirmed that its chief product officer, Kevin Packingham, left the company, according to the New York Times.

Packingham was in charge of introducing various different Galaxy products. The South Korean tech company did not offer any explanation on why Packingham went packing. Thus, it is still unclear why he left Samsung and whether it was voluntary or not.

Packingham spent two years at Samsung Mobile in Dallas and helped with the unveiling of the Samsung's Galaxy S3 in 2012, which is considered as one of the most successful devices of the company. This is supported by the sales of the said smartphone.

Packingham also played an immense role in negotiating with different U.S. carriers that gave Samsung a big boost when it comes to global presence and market share.

Last month, Packingham revealed in an interview that Samsung transformed how mobile companies market their products. Samsung tried to have a strong relationship with its carriers in offering and advertising the Samsung phones.

Conventionally, manufacturers would rely to networks in advertising. However, Samsung invested heavily in marketing to make its phones a big hit. Samsung spent in advertising its products heavily that resulted to more followers and buyers. In return, the networks happily carried Samsung smartphones. This heavily changed Samsung's status in the smartphone market.

Before going to Samsung, Packingham was CEO of Amerilink Telecom, a smaller company which attempted to bring Huawei's telecom equipment into Sprint Nextel Corporation network. Before that, he was a product executive at Spring Nextel.
