Six days of action have been blistering the clay courts at Roland Garros in France for the 2013 French Open, and the action is only getting hotter on Saturday.
No.2-seeded Roger Federer continued his strong play in the 2013 French Open by besting No.30-ranked Julien Benneteau 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. He wasn't the only one to move on, though, as defending world champion Rafael Nadal moved on, but not before suffering yet another scare as Martin Kizan beat him 6-4 in the first set before he rallied to win the next three sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. meanwhile, No.4-seeded Roger Federer advanced to the third round by defeating Feliciano Lopez 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 while No.6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga needed three sets to beat No. 25 Jeremy Chardy, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5.
In women's action, defending champion Maria Sharapova continued her impressive campaign to repeat as the French Open champion by beating Eugenie Bouchard in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. World and tournament No.1 Serena Williams easily vanquished No.26 Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-2 while No. 8 Angelique Kerber, No. 5 Sara Errani and No. 12 Maria Kirilenko also advanced.
The action continues on Saturday in men's action when No.1 seed Novak Djokovic continues to make his bid to get back to the finals of the Grand Slam tournament when he takes on No.26-seeded Grigor Dimitrov. Nadal also sees action again as the defending champion looks to keep his bid for a four-peat when he takes on No.27-seed Fabio Fognini. No.7 seeded Richard Gasquet will also be in action against Nikolay Davydenko while ninth-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka squares off against No. 21 Jerzy Janowicz. Tommy Haas, the No.12.seed in the tournament, will play No.19 John Isner and No.13 Kei Nishikori goes up against No.24 Benoit Paire.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, Sharapova looks to continue her dominance when she takes on Jie Zheng. No.3 Victoria Azarenka looks to push forward in her French Open title bid when she meets No. 31 Alize Cornet. Petra Kvitova, the No.7 seed, will play Jamie Hampton, while No.9 Samantha Stosur faces No. 18 Jelena Jankovic and No.12 Maria Kirilenko faces Stefanie Voegele.
