The next generation Mac mini will reportedly be out by December 2015, if sources are to be believed.

KDramaStars and Christian Post's Cross Map claim that Apple has reportedly confirmed the said release date for the upcoming Mac mini, citing a lead by Cyberland.

Although both news outlets report of the same Mac mini 2014 release date, the rumor still seems sketchy. For one, Apple does not usually confirm leads and rumors about its devices, including the next-generation Mac mini.

If the December 2015 release date proves true, it'll be a good 2 years from when Apple initially updated the Mac mini. The Cupertino-based company last refreshed the said line in 2012, upping the device's specs to a 2.5 GHz dual-core Intel i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage.

It was previously reported that the Mac mini 2014 was due an update mid-2014. The speculation comes after an Apple document listing a mid-2014 refreshed Mac mini was leaked online.

Mac Rumors suggested that the Mac mini 2014 could ditch the current Ivy Bridge-integrated chips in exchange for Iris-integrated Haswell processors.

The device could also come with OS X Yosemite since Apple almost always ships out devices running on the latest OS version available. IT Pro breaks down the could-be features of the newest Mac OS which includes HandOff, AirDrop, MailDrop and Continuity.

The Mac mini 2014 may also be smaller than the current-generation device, suggested Air Herald. The current-generation Mac mini weighs 2.7 pounds and measures 7.7 inches by 7.7 inches. It stands 1.4 inches tall. If Apple is indeed looking to make a smaller Mac mini 2014, it isn't clear if a reduction in surface area or height will be priority.

The 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz) with 3MB L3 cache Mac mini model is priced at $599 while the 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache is $200 more expensive at $799.

Mac Rumors said that Apple will most likely set the same price tag for the Mac mini 2014, should the device see the light of day.

Apple is set to hold a media event on September 9, reported Re/code. According to the outlet, the event will most likely be all about the iPhone 6, based on its history of release dates. However, if the company will be a bit more generous, Mac mini users might also get a long-overdue update for the device.
